You’ve managed to do what seems like the impossible: You have a full day off from work.
You don’t have any major to-do tasks, errands, or appointments to worry about. Nobody is expecting you to help them with a job or meet them somewhere.
You know what this means…you have a whole day to spend on your own healing and well-being, and you don’t intend to waste it!
If you are trying to plan a perfect and well-considered healing day, consider incorporating these elements for maximum restoration.
Choose activities that bring you enjoyment.
One of the best ways you can enhance your healing day is by making time for activities that bring you enjoyment. Make sure you save some time for your favorite hobbies and activities.
Whether you like to play music, go on nature walks, go for swims, dance, or read books, make sure you spend time doing that thing that brings you pure enjoyment.
Turn off your work-related communication devices.
On your perfect healing day, it’s best to say no to messages, emails, and calls from work. Consider silencing your cell phone, leaving your laptop alone, and ignoring those work chat apps during your healing day.
Thinking about work-related conversations and topics can take away from the power of a good healing day. Remember that those conversations will be there later – save them for when it’s appropriate. Your healing day is all about you.
Make time for some self-care.
A good self-care routine has a special place in your healing day. Go through your self-care routine as a part of your healing day to help yourself feel truly cared for and relaxed.
Spend time stretching, applying a skincare regimen, taking a hot bath, or sneaking in a nap. Whatever your self-care preferences are, there is room for them when you’re trying to heal yourself and feel restored.
Set boundaries.
Don’t allow outside forces to impede your healing day. Once you decide you are going to dedicate a specific day to healing and restoration, don’t allow other people to “reclaim” that time from you.
While doing so can feel uncomfortable, practice telling them “no” when you are asked to help with a work-related task or some other problem. Give yourself the gift of one full day where you only worry about taking care of yourself – not others and everything else.
Practice some emotional healing.
During your healing day, spend some time reflecting on your feelings and emotions.
When you are totally focused on yourself and your own needs, and not distracted by the business of life, it’s a wonderful time to look inward and explore your emotions on a deeper level. You can achieve this through journaling, meditation, and self-reflection.
Nourish your body.
Listen to your body’s signals during your healing day. When you feel thirsty, hydrate yourself. When you feel hungry, eat something.
Focus on warm, satisfying drinks, such as a cup of tea or coffee in the morning, to boost your mood. Choose nutrient-dense, healthy, and light foods that leave you feeling satisfied but not weighed down or sluggish.
End the day with a good night’s sleep.
Nothing caps off a healing day quite like a peaceful night’s sleep. Choose a reasonable bedtime and stick to it.
Practice a calming bedtime routine to get yourself prepared for restorative sleep. Dim the lights, choose comfortable bedding and pajamas, and stay away from screens at least one hour prior to bedtime. Setting yourself up for a successful night’s sleep ensures that you will end your healing day on a high note.
